Big City Greens Wiki
For the business which this building was home to, see Big Coffee.

5305 West Elkins Street[1]) is a building next to the Greens' house which appears in every background shot where it is present.

For a majority of the series, it was home to Big Coffee and the Greens' Rooftop Garden (the former since "Level Up"); after its destruction by Chip Whistler in "Chipocalypse Now", the rebuilt building was put up for rent (through Don & Dawn), and briefly housed a Burger Clown and an illegal secret café; it is currently owned by the Gloria + Green Café as of "Gloria's Café" and opened in Season 3.

Appearance[]

As with the next-door Elkins Apartment, the building is tall and colored beige. The exterior always has a tent at the front entrance.

As Big Coffee, the exterior is brown and very drab in general, and as Burger Clown, the exterior takes on a variety of bright colors, yellow and orange the most prominent out of them. The sign's background is an azure blue.

Currently, the Gloria + Green Café takes on a dark green exterior and two shades of gray, dark and light gray, for the tent.

History[]

Before the Show[]

Greens' House - 30 years ago

30 Years before the show a barn was in the same location.

Long ago before the Big City expansion the space now occupied by the building was home to the main barn of Green Family Farms. According to Gramma, what's left of Metrona Green's aeroplane is buried under the building (except for the front rotor which was converted into the windmill blades for the city Green house).

The current building was likely built a few decades before the show.

As Big Coffee[]

Main article: Big Coffee

For a majority of the series, the building was home to Big Coffee, Gloria Sato's original workplace prior to its hostile takeover by Chip Whistler in "Chipwrecked". Big Coffee was the original hang-out place for the Greens, their friends and Gloria.

Green Family Farms rooftop garden[]

In "Level Up", the Greens establish a rooftop garden on the roof of the building on the grounds of an undisclosed amount of profits of the garden being ceded to Big Coffee. This agreement simulated an expansion of farmland for Bill. This garden was destroyed along with the rest of the building Big Coffee before the construction of the Wholesome Foods Mega-Store. As of "Boss Life" the greens are proven to have re-established a garden on the roof; probably as a part of the business deal between Alice and Gloria after the founding of Gloria + Green Café.

Destruction & Wholesome Foods[]

Big Coffee destroyed

The building demolished by Chip

In "Chipocalypse Now", adding to his hostile takeover of Big Coffee, Chip also took over the next-door Elkins Apartment and detonated both. Over the course of a week, Chip began construction of the Wholesome Foods Mega-Store, a glorified supermarket with a second floor, which rested upon the space where both buildings formerly stood. After construction, the new building stood only for a mere day before a popular revolution proved Chip's petition fake, and where-in Chip was deemed the ultimate loser and the Greens the victor, leading to the Mega-Store's swift demolition and Chip's subsequent banishment from Big City and resulting Identity Crisis.

Don & Dawn Property Management[]

A few days after the battle, the building where Big Coffee was located in was reinstated, and with help of realtor couple Don & Dawn, was put up for rent as seen in "Rent Control" through "Sellouts". The rooftop garden is notably absent during this time period. The space was only momentarily vacant until "Fast Foodie" when Burger Clown scored the space, but remained without a tenant following that Burger Clown's unexpected closure. The building was then seen still up for rent from "Spaghetti Theory" through "Gloria's Café".

Brief moments of ownership[]

As Burger Clown[]

As mentioned above, Burger Clown was able to secure the property for its newest branch; drawing much excitement from Cricket and Tilly, only to be closed a mere week later due to a scandal involving Bill and Cricket and the new burger clown play place. With Burger Clown's closure, the building returned to vacancy.

Brief secret café stint[]

In "Gloria's Café" the inability to score a loan severely hurt Gloria's chances of starting her own café, so she takes to utilizing the vacant Big Coffee building illegally to gain enough cash to get a loan. However, this is foiled by Officer Keys and, in an indirect way, the Greens.

Gloria + Green Café[]

Following Gloria's failed scheme, Gramma sees a downtrodden Gloria, who just got arrested and lost the secret café, and allows Gloria some of her retirement money (in exchange for some payback in return), allowing her to start the Gloria + Green Café.

The café officially opened in Season 3, and around the time of "Boss Life", it has become an instant success. Cricket resumed his job along with the rest of his family; after "The Move", the Greens temporarily did not work there due to moving back to the country, but after returning to Big City, they continued working there..

Trivia[]

  • For the longest time, this building did not officially have a name. However, it was associated with Big Coffee for a long while, and the wiki colloquially referred to this building as Big Coffee building. Subsequent interior shots of the building revealed its number, 5305 West Elkins Street.
  • All businesses that operated in this building have contrasting colors:
    • As Big Coffee, a drab color scheme to befit Gloria's cynical outlook of the world.
    • As Burger Clown, a very bright color scheme to befit Cricket's optimism.
    • As the secret café, the same as Big Coffee but predominantly shadowy to reflect Gloria trying to hide the café from the authority.
    • As the Gloria + Green Café, a mixture of greens and browns, to befit the Green family and Gloria being their honorary member, and also to reflect their official ownership.
  • The three businesses that operated in this building are all eateries.
  • The building, when up for rental, has Big Coffee's colors. This remains the case after Burger Clown's closure.
    • Big Coffee would not reopen in this particular location, instead being replaced with both a Burger Clown (temporarily) and Gloria's own café.
  • During the unreleased pilot for the series, the business was confirmed to be called "Café de Urbana", until it was changed to Big Coffee later on.
