General[]

  • Moral: When you collaborate together, anything's possible.
  • This is the sixth episode with a title that rhymes, after "Fill Bill", "Suite Retreat", "Axin' Saxon", "Gabriella's Fella" and "Cricket's Tickets". The seventh and eighth episodes with this pattern are "Frilly Tilly" and "Chill Bill".
  • This episode is a special episode which involves the production of cartoons such as Big City Greens itself. Due to this, this episode has a high number of fourth wall breaks, like "Cheap Show", a parody of bottle episodes.
  • The episode's title features the most syllables, with nine total.
  • Gloria is actually paying to work at the animation studio due to being an intern and due to going there for community college.
  • Some of the crew members for Kingdom of Lore are caricatures of Big City Greens cast and crew members:
    • Topher and Blaine are caricatures of the creators of the show itself, Chris and Shane Houghton.
      • In addition, this is the first episode where they star as themselves (outside of Chris as Cricket, for example), outside of the non-canonical Miss Tilly's Fun Time TV Minute shorts.
      • One half of the Houghton Brothers is Chris, who plays Cricket, and his in-episode caricature is named Topher. This could be a pun on his full name Christopher.
      • Topher has Cricket's buckteeth.
    • The two voice actors are caricatures of Bill and Gramma's voice actors, Bob Joles and Artemis Pebdani.
    • The storyboard artists resemble the actual storyboard artists for the episode, Raj Brueggemann and Kristen Gish.
    • The painter resembles Ariel Vracin-Harrell.
    • The designers resemble Kassandra Heller and Steve Lowtwait.
  • A running gag is Cricket mispronouncing the protagonist's name; this was used earlier in the Random Rings short "Launchpad Calls Cricket".
  • The episode's title is said as the name of the programming block Cricket and Tilly watch ("You're watching Animation Abomination!")
  • Bill and Gramma are absent in this episode.
    • This and its sister are the first time Bill was absent for both episode segments.
    • This is also the first time neither Bob Joles nor Artemis Pebdani are involved with either segment at all, aside from providing additional voices as the voice actors in the studio.
    • This marks Bill and Gramma's last absence in Season 2.
  • The final scene of this episode was used for the third slide to promote the final five episodes of Season 2.
  • In real life, it takes several weeks to months to write, plan, record and animate a single episode of a show, unlike the studio here which does it all in one single day.
    • Some animated shows may even take up to a year to produce an episode; such is the case with The Amazing World of Gumball.
  • This marks the third time Cricket and Tilly are truly against each other, following "Green Christmas" and "The Room".
  • This is the first episode where Gloria gets a job that she does not get fired or quit from.
  • This is the second time a storyboard has appeared in an episode, following "Cheap Show".
  • The reaction to Cricket and Tilly's ending may suggest the reception isn't positive.
  • Tilly's attempts to stop the Cricket Cut and how they fail:
    • Replace the storyboards with those for the Tilly Cut. Cricket witnesses this and switches them back before the upload.
    • Edit the voice actors' scripts. Cricket kept unedited copies.
    • Steal the work from the other stations. Gloria takes them, thinking Tilly got them for her.
    • Stop the catapult from delivering the work to Korea. Cricket cuts the rope, slinging it.
  • The writer with pale apricot skin and puce hair sounds very much like Remy's voice, hinting he is voiced by Zeno Robinson.
  • During his initial explanation for his ending, Cricket throws down a salt shaker which knocks over a bowl of popcorn; dropping and spilling salt is considered bad luck.
    • This marks the second time that happened since "Blue Tater".
  • Cricket's ending is effectively jumping the shark, forgoing all established character elements for an enormous surprise ending which would take fans of the series off-guard.
  • The episode title has a triple meaning: the animation block Cricket and Tilly watch, the focus on animation, and Cricket and Tilly's brawl over whose ending is better.
  • The episode uses a plot that is similar to other cartoon episodes like.
    • Beavis and Butt-Head: Animation Sucks.
    • South Park: A Very Crappy Christmas.
  • The opening scene with Cricket and Tilly on the couch was re-dubbed for a Twitter video promoting Big City Greens the Movie: Spacecation, with their mouths reanimated to lip-sync with the new dialogue.

Continuity[]

  • Tilly is shown blushing again ("Okay Karaoke")
  • Cricket and Tilly are shown to have gotten a laptop thanks to Gloria introducing the Greens to the world of social media in "Sellouts".
    • However, in "Cyberbullies", Cricket says he doesn't have a laptop. This episode may take place after the former episode.
  • When Topher and Blaine are revealed, a poster for Bear Cowboy ("Quiet Please") can be seen.
  • Posters of Dark Star from Constellation Battles and America Rat can be seen in the storyboarding room.
  • An image of Mr. Burger Clown from "Fast Foodie" is seen in the storyboarding room.

Production[]

  • This episode, along with "Ding Dongers", had almost no advertisement on social media platforms leading up to the premiere, possibly to avoid major spoilers of the fourth wall nature of the episode and most of the attention going to the Amphibia special, "The First Temple".
    • The episode was finally put up after airing, due to Shane Houghton forgetting to post due to having excessive business beforehand. [1]
  • Tilly changing expressions by waving her arm across her face was playfully suggested by Raj Brueggemann. [2]
