"Bleeped" is the 49th episode of Season 2 and the 107th episode overall of Big City Greens.
Synopsis
Cricket is amused by a new socially unacceptable word in his big city world and tempts fate by repeating it despite Bill's objections.
Plot
Cricket turns the children's choir into a pack of potty mouths.
At the Big City Community Center, a group of kids, including Cricket, Tilly, Remy, Benny, Kiki, Weezie, and Gregly, are rehearsing their lines for a concert about the Community Center. Community Sue directs the kids to a successful rehearsal, with Tilly's singing voice being singled out for praise. As Alice (who was "forced" to help) tries to fold up the chairs, she lets slip the word "blort", which is a curse word. However, Cricket and Tilly have been standing there to hear Gramma say the word. Cricket, thinking it is funny, decides to start using it, despite Tilly's objections.
Cricket decides to spread awareness of the word to the others, the first student being Remy (whose contact with Vasquez is cut so Remy can swear unfiltered), the second being Sue (who takes offense) and soon afterward all the kids but an infuriated Tilly are turned into a choir of potty-mouths. Sue tells Cricket to meet her in her office, and Bill comes in shortly after; after learning Cricket is swearing, he is determined to stop him from swearing. Meanwhile, Tilly tests out her singing voice, which only drives away two birds. Bill declares he will stop Cricket from swearing; however, he only swears more and more when he claims he cannot control what goes in his mouth and he can choose whatever he wants to say, so Bill has to take drastic measures.
Bill's attempt to stop the cussing.
The anti-swearing program is done initially through a program initiated by Bill, which doesn't work, as he's "not the dad of [the other kids]," (according to Cricket) so he turns to Officer Keys for help. Meanwhile, Tilly, joined by a mouse she named "Bradley", enters a squash court, where she uses the acoustics to its fullest to test out the singing voice she will use to attract animals; however, it only manages to shatter the glass behind her.
Keys' idea is to initiate the kids on the "Can't U Speak Sweetly" program (abbreviated "CUSS"), with Bill posing as a tongue mascot who speaks hip; when Keys plays a song by Lil' Cuss, the kids are educated - not on speaking sweetly, but more curse words that they immediately use. Frustrated by this, Bill enters "full dad mode" and scares the kids straight. This apparently works, as the others aren't swearing anymore; just in time for the concert.
As dusk falls, the concert (with provided lobster buffet, which Sue is apparently regretting) is on; Nancy has joined the Greens to watch the concert. During the concert, Cricket is determined to keep on swearing, despite the other kids, including Remy, being scared straight; it is revealed Cricket's apparent fear earlier was all a ruse, and instead of singing the final word "best," Cricket will drop a B-bomb instead. Bill catches on to Cricket's idea and snatches him behind the bleachers just as the concert is beginning. Bill is about ready to punish Cricket, but his apparent second pair of overalls snatches him away from his fate. As the choir launches into the spooky overture, Cricket has apparently escaped Bill's punishment... but he steps on Bill on his way back to the bleachers. His fate sealed, Cricket admits defeat, but he tells Bill the moment he is out of the picture, he'll be able to say anything he wants, including swears.
He may enjoy the cussing, but Cricket chooses not to ruin everyone's fun.
Bill admits that Cricket is indeed right; he can't control what comes out of his mouth any more than he can control the wind, and as Cricket grows up, he can control what he says. Bill gives Cricket full permission to swear, and leaves his son with his lesson: "You just gotta decide if that's the kinda person you wanna be." Cricket apparently takes this to heart, but decides he won't stop swearing, deciding to drop the "B-bomb" instead. During the big finish, Cricket gets back up, but loses his balance, and sings "Community Center is the..." It would appear that now would be the best time to drop the B-bomb, but Cricket, upon seeing Bill in the audience and taking his advice to heart, realizes he can't do it and decides to restrain himself, rounding off the concert with its intended finish: "...the best." Tilly then sings the final line at a frequency where many animals are able to hear her, fulfilling her wish. Everyone else, however, does not hear anything. Sue's parents congratulate her daughter on a fine concert.
Gramma continues to pack up the chairs as Cricket and Tilly run up to Bill and Nancy and are praised. Cricket acknowledges that while he thought about cussing, he doesn't want to cuss all the time because being the potty-mouthed jerk that ruined everyone's day is not the person he wanted to be. As Cricket and Bill share a hug, Gramma utters one last "blort", and the kids and Nancy laugh while Bill sighs in annoyance.
