General[]
- Moral: Your opponent may be with you all along.
- This is the first episode that uses Cricket's name in the title.
- This episode reveals that Gramma's full name is Alice Delores Green.
- The two names Gramma lists as "stupid" are the last names of Stephen Hawking and Albert Einstein, two people who are believed to be very intelligent.
- This is the first episode to mention Nancy Green (Bill's ex-wife and Cricket and Tilly's estranged mom).
- In this episode and "Phoenix Rises", Tilly refers to Nancy as "Mom", while future episodes call her "Mama".
The month on Cricket's calendar is missing.
- According to the calendar, the day Cricket takes on the Green family rite of passage falls on the second week on Wednesday, but the month is missing.
- Since Cricket didn't go to school along with Tilly, he is probably on summer vacation and the rite of passage probably occurred sometime between July-September.
- The episode could possibly be set in the early summer since it was 7:05 PM while Cricket and Gramma were at the dining room table, and the sun was starting to set by then.
- Chris Houghton claimed on his Tumblr Cricket's rite of passage took place in the month of "Seppyemberly".[1]
- Cricket's faced opponents in the episode, and their respective outcomes, are:
- A supposed beast with clawed feet; they turn out to be the slippers of a man at Big Coffee.
- A dragon; it was just a sign to the Food Dragon restaurant.
- Officer Keys' horse Buttercup; she gets spooked and runs away, easily knocking Cricket off.
- Someone's dog; it is on a leash and not considered wild.
- A squirrel; Gramma doesn't count that fight because she does not consider such a "real-life monster".
- A supposed fight with a lion; Cricket used ketchup as a substitute for blood, and was caught.
- Gramma; he fights her for a long enough time before tricking her into letting her guard down, allowing him to pin her and complete the rite of passage.
- This episode takes place before "Bear Trapped" because Cricket says he despises bears, and that episode marks the conclusion to his hatred of them.
- Gramma doesn't count Cricket fighting a squirrel for the rite of passage because it is not considered a "real-life monster". In reality, squirrels are mostly harmless and run away when humans approach them, but are known to attack them if they are disturbed long enough, especially children, and can inflict wounds. There's also a chance squirrels can carry rabies.
- This is the first time Cricket is seen in his underwear outside the opening theme.
- The game Big City Battle! is based on this episode.
- This is the first episode to show Cricket's swindling and manipulative side.
Continuity[]
- Cricket's calendar display in this episode is seen again in "Homeshare Hoedown" and "Cricket's Shoes". According to Shane Houghton, either all three episodes take place in the same month as each other, or Cricket is too lazy to change his calendar.[2]
- Tilly's rite of passage involving a horse was brought up later in "Horse Girl", where she reveals she has a hatred of horses.
Production[]
- This is the first episode animated by Sugarcube.
- This episode was originally intended to be paired with Steak Night. The episodes are paired on Disney+.
