Disney+ (also called Disney+ Hotstar or just Hotstar in Asia-Pacific countries) is an American streaming subscription service operated by Disney Streaming, a streaming division of Disney Entertainment. It was launched on November 12, 2019.
A monthly subscription is required to watch.
History[]
At launch, Disney+ started as a domestic service, and is currently in the process of expanding internationally. The service streams Disney-owned original content from Disney, Pixar, Marvel, Star Wars, 20th Century Fox (who still has a deal with HBO until 2022), and all National Geographic channels.
The service operates alongside ESPN+ and Hulu (which Disney owns a 67% majority stake in, and since mid-2019, has full control) in addition to selling a bundle containing the three-tier package, with Hulu including the service as an add-on. After February 23, 2021, certain countries bundle the service with Star, a subsection of Disney+ intended for adult audiences as a replacement for Hulu, the equivalent service in the United States. As Disney+ Hotstar, it includes all existing Hotstar content, acquired when Disney acquired Star's parent company, 21st Century Fox.
As of December 2020, the service has pulled in over 86 million subscribers since the first year of launch.
In March of 2024, Disney+ changed its logo's color scheme from a deep navy blue to a teal blue (officially known as aurora), likely to represent its merge with Hulu in the United States. The app and website's font was also changed.

Availability of Big City Greens[]
Alongside with its sister platform, Hulu, Disney+ in the United States is streaming Big City Greens.
Season 1 of the show was included at launch, with Season 2 released on May 21, 2021. Season 3 was released to the service on March 16, 2022.
On the international version of Disney+ (Americas, Europe, Singapore, East Asia and Oceania), the audio tracks available for this series include English, German, Spanish (both Latin and Castilian), French, Italian, Dutch, Danish, Norwegian, Portuguese (both Brazilian and European), Swedish, Japanese, Korean, Cantonese, Mandarin (both Chinese and Taiwanese), Polish, Czech, Hungarian, Romanian, Greek, Swedish and Turkish.
Outside the U.S., the series is readily available on the Disney+ and Disney+ Hotstar platforms in many countries, and in some countries, the series is in fact entirely exclusive to Disney+/Disney+ Hotstar due to the shutdown of certain international Disney Channel feeds. Territories where the show is exclusive to Disney+/Disney+ Hotstar include the United Kingdom, Republic of Ireland, Italy, Singapore, Australia, New Zealand, Thailand, Indonesia and Malaysia.
The series is available in 5.1 surround sound starting from Season 3 onwards. According to Shane Houghton on Twitter, the show has been mixing episodes in 5.1. The show's 5.1 is noticeably different than 5.1 mixes of other content on Disney+; on other content, the music would leak into the vocal track (the center track when opened in a program like Audacity), but this isn't the case with Big City Greens.
Episode differences[]
Season 1[]
The order of episodes on Disney+ are switched around slightly, some episodes also changing their sister segments. This creates the show's proper continuity, making things such as Gloria's slow growth over the early episodes and specific jokes and gags like the Barry Cuda song making more sense after their true first appearance.[1] The Disney+ order also follows the production code order.
In "Cricket's Shoes", the hardcoded subtitles for Phoenix's speech were removed (compared to TV and on-demand versions) and replaced by the optional subtitles as used in international prints. This was also the case with "Critterball Crisis".
According to Shane Houghton, while the episodes' changed order on Disney+ is the correct order he and Chris originally intended the episodes to be in, it does not match up with the order in which they're produced.[2]
Season 2[]
The original airings, and the initial digital versions of, "Present Tense" and "Hurt Bike" lack Easter eggs due to COVID-19-related production difficulties[3]. However, background designer Steve Lowtwait added the Easter eggs for both episodes for Easter 2021. The Disney+ versions of both episodes feature both eggs. These changes are the first known visual changes to an episode.[4]
When initially released, the order of the episodes were out of order, as they had the final ten episodes moved to the front. It was later fixed the same day. Season 2 is also the first season where all of the episodes are listed in the same order as their broadcast order.[5]
A similar listing error occurred to Phineas and Ferb where most episodes were listed incorrectly when the show was added to Disney+; however, in 2020, this error was fixed.
Season 3[]
Disney+ changed Big City Greens's release pattern this season, being added in batches of 3-5 instead of chunks.
The first batch was released to Disney+ on March 16, 2022 with the first five episodes of the season:
- "Squashed!"
- "Boss Life"/"Papaganda"
- "Little Buddy"/"Zen Garden"
- "No Service"/"Takened"
- "Green Greens"/"Truce Bomb"
The second batch dropped with four more episodes on July 27, 2022:
- "Trivia Night"/"Big Trouble"
- "DependaBill"/"The Delivernator"
- "Listen Up!"/"Big Picture"
- "Rembo"/"Dirt Jar" (added 3 days early before its Disney Channel airing on July 30)
The third batch came with four more episodes on October 12, 2022:
- "The Move"
- "Country Side"/"Junk Mountain"
- "Farmer Remy"/"Homeward Hound"
- "Pie Hard"/"Rat Tail" (added 3 days early before its Disney Channel airing on October 15)
The fourth batch included three more episodes, although they were silently released through the estimated time of November 2022 and March 2023. Due to this, it is currently unknown the exact date the episodes came to Disney+:
- "Frilly Tilly"/"Montaged"
- "Pizza Deliverance"/"Horse Girl"
- "Virtually Christmas" (potentially added before its Disney Channel airing)
The fifth and final batch were added to the service, finishing the season on April 19, 2023 with four more episodes:
- "Pen Pals"/"Study Abroad"
- "Honey Heist"/"Dog Mayor"
- "Chill Bill"/"Bunny Farm"
- "Long Goodbye"
When the fifth batch was released, the episode "Virtually Christmas" was moved down to the 20th slot from the 16th slot, likely to follow production order. Therefore, the new order became:
- "Pizza Deliverance"/"Horse Girl"
- "Pen Pals"/"Study Abroad"
- "Honey Heist"/"Dog Mayor"
- "Chill Bill"/"Bunny Farm"
- "Long Goodbye"
- "Virtually Christmas"

Trivia[]
- The Disney+ version of "Present Tense" and "Hurt Bike" features the missing hidden Easter eggs when they didn't in the broadcast and all other digital versions of the episode. [6]
- Originally, none of the Season 2 episodes were in order, this was later fixed.
- "The Gifted" was labeled "Gifted, The".
- This also happens to other episodes of shows starting with "a" or "the", as a result of Disney+'s sorting system.
- Example: the Phineas and Ferb episode "A Phineas and Ferb Family Christmas" is listed on Disney+ as "Phineas and Ferb Family Christmas, a".
- This also happens to other episodes of shows starting with "a" or "the", as a result of Disney+'s sorting system.
- The whole episode of "Green Christmas" is counted as the intro.
- In some dubs (most prominently the Taiwanese Mandarin and Cantonese dubs), the songs aren't dubbed.
- This is especially noticeable when streaming the show dubbed into Thai, Indonesian or Malay on Disney+ Hotstar in some Southeast Asian countries, as due to budget constraints, songs in Southeast Asian dubbings are no longer dubbed as they previously used to be.
- An example of this can be seen in "Okay Karaoke". As the episodes were dubbed in Southeast Asian languages, setting the audio to one would leave the songs undubbed.
- Big City Greens was the 9th most streamed animated series on Disney+ in the second quarter of 2023 in the United States.[7]
- Thumbnails for the show and every other show use the same thumbnails as Google Play and YouTube, with a few minor exceptions, such as Time Crisis.
