General
- Morals:
- Make sure you have all the proper evidence before coming to a conclusion.
- An open mindset is clearer than a fixed mindset.
- This episode shares a similar plot to the The Ghost and Molly McGee episode "Innocent Until Proven Ghostly"; both plots of each episode feature a character being accused of eating a cake, being put on trial, & having a trusted family member/friend as their defense attorney. The climax has the main character prove they did not eat the cake in a different way (Cricket was rehearsing for a call with Gabriella, Scratch is carob intolerant), and the true culprit is revealed to be someone outside the family. However, only in "Green Trial", was a new family member revealed.
- This episode marks the first introduction of a new family member since Season 1's "Uncaged".
- Ernest Green was mentioned/pictured in "Garage Tales", and again in the flashback during "Greens' Acres". However, due to his passing during Bill's early childhood, he does not make a full appearance.
- This and the following episode mark one of the rare moments where Nancy actively parents Cricket.
- This is the first time Tilly is seen wearing different earrings other than her usual silver studs; in this case, she wears gold hoop earrings.
- Gramma revealed she hand-sewed the chair cushions in the country house in 1950. Her driver's license reveals she was born in 1943, putting her at 7 years old when she sewed them.
- Foreshadowing:
- Nancy says near the beginning that her strawberry cake is her father Nick's favorite dessert. It was revealed in the ending that Nick was the true culprit.
- While Cricket says nothing to defend himself during Nancy's explanations, he looks fearful, not out of worry, but because of visible wariness; later when Tilly asks him why he didn't talk about his call with Gabriella, he only replies "It never happened." This likely foreshadows how he will react once Tilly shows the rehersal video, the embarrassment and humiliation he recieves from his family laughing at the proof.
- Irony: During the climax of the Green Trial, when Tilly explains what Cricket really did to in the kitchen, Nancy claims that what she said was speculation, yet her claiming that Cricket eating the cake while everyone was doing chores was also a speculation.
- The Greens went out to do chores at 9:00 AM, and they returned at 11:20; Nancy last saw the cake at 11:00, and it was eaten between 11:00-11:20. Cricket's rehearsal video during that time was 32 minutes long, hinting he destroyed the kitchen after the Greens left at 9:00 and started the rehearsal video no earlier than 10:48, and stopped recording at no later than 11:20 when he got called downstairs.
- Judging by the orientiation of the hands of the clock over Cricket's hammock, it was approximately 12:15 by the time Tilly calls a recess.
- Cricket was shown using his own tablet but in "Cyberbullies", he says he doesn't have one.
- This is the final episode where the Greens hear of Cricket's relationship with Gabriella before they broke up in "Split Decision".
Continuity
- During Tilly's explanation flashback, Cricket briefly sings "Monsterman" and the Barry Cuda song.
- Cricket's supposed fattened form is described similarly to "Fast Foodie".
- Cricket was expecting another call from Gabriella following "Horse Girl".
