Green's "treasure" revealed

The Green family treasure is a special treasure kept in the Green family for generations. It is mainly a special keepsake to prevent the farm from being sold.

History

When the farm first started during the 1800s in Bixby's time, it was threatened to be sold by his father Jerome when the train station that was supposed to be built across the street was instead moved to the next town over. Bixby, not wanting to give up, came up with a plan. At 9:00 AM when the train thundered past, he rode up alongside a car on the family horse, offering the passengers a basket of apples and to tell their friends. In no time, the farm was saved, and Bixby eventually placed his pocket watch into a box used to mark that he saved the farm with it.

During Metrona's time, a horde of aphids came out of nowhere and started eating all the plants. Like Jerome, Metrona's father Archibald considers selling the farm with no plants. Metrona discovered the aphids' one true weakness is ladybugs, who are twice the size as they are. She released a swarm of ladybugs who ate all the aphids and in no time, the plants were regrown and the farm was saved. Metrona also placed her aviator goggles into the box along with the watch.

Later on during Alice Green's childhood, the farm has dried up due to a lack of farmer and now her dad is intent on selling the farm. Not wanting to give up, Alice kept digging for water and soon one of her apple seeds sprout, meaning there's water nearby. She uses the loader that is to destroy the house to dig near the sproutling, revealing a large waterspout that waters the whole farm. The farm saved, Alice's father digs their new well around the spout, Alice places her toy shovel in with the other keepsakes, and her father gives her a clue to locate the buried box.

In "Family Legacy", two realtors named Don and Dawn were intent on buying the Green house and destroying it to make room for a hot yogert studio. This prompts Alice to give her grandchildren Cricket and Tilly the clue her father gave her, but since it's written in riddle form, she has no idea how to understand it. Tilly, loving riddles, manages to decipher the meaning behind it and with that, they find the other clues and discover the buried box.

At first, Alice thought the items in the box were worthless and begins to talk with the realtors, but upon further inspection, Cricket and Tilly realize the items were from their ancestors when they saved the farm their age, and they serve as a warning to not sell the farm. They manage to stop Alice before the contract is signed and reveal the treasure wasn't the items, but the farm itself. Alice, given hope, denies the contract, and they throw apples at the realtors to send them away, saving the farm once again. The family legacy secure once again, the children place a doodle into the box along with their ancestors' keepsakes for their future generations to know.

Riddles

Tilly reading the clue

The first part to the treasure is kept on a slip of paper in Alice's prosthetic leg:

To find the treasure, answer each clue,
But Train yourself to see things anew.
Start at the Porch, be in step with Time,
Use Bixby's Hands to find the next rhyme.

Solution: The train that thundered past the first farm arrived at 9:00; "Bixby's hands" refers to the hands on his pocket watch that pointed toward that time.

Tilly reads the clue on the rock

One must walk in the same order as depicted on the watch, beginning at the porch: first 12 steps forward, then nine steps left. They will then find a rock with the second riddle underneath.

To save the farm,
Metrona had to fly.
Her clue is a breeze,
Pulling her through the sky.

Solution: Metrona was the first Green to fly in an airplane; when she died sometime after, her plane was buried under what would become Big Coffee. However, the propeller was saved and converted into the windmill in the Greens' backyard.

Alice knows well

When Gramma ripped up the first riddle, the breeze from the windmill pulled the paper shreds toward it. On the back of the windmill is the final riddle, with one part monogrammed into the back of each vane.

The farm was dry
I wanted to sell
Our family treasure
Is in a place
Alice knows well

Solution: Back in Alice's time, the farm was dried up and had no water; the last part of the riddle, "Alice knows well", refers to the well that was dug up when she discovered a big deluge of water that saved the farm in her time.

When the well was removed, a time capsule with a key keepsake from each generation was buried there, to serve as a warning to its future generations to not sell the farm once dug up.
