"Little Buddy" is the 4th episode of Season 3 and the 120th episode overall of Big City Greens.
Synopsis
Cricket mentors a wild child, and Tilly develops a cult following.
Plot
At the Community Center, Cricket is about to launch a basketball into a hoop, but ends up slam-dunking it into Community Sue's face (Sue isn't injured). Sue rounds up the kids for an announcement: they'll all be getting little buddies as part of the Community Center's "Big Buddy, Li'l Buddy" program! Cricket's questions about it revolve around alleged promised pizza, which Tilly boredly shrugs off, as this is the time for her to become a role model to a little kid. Soon after, the kids are introduced to their Li'l Buddies; Tilly is paired up with Emma, who she presents with sour straws as a welcoming gift, and Cricket with a li'l, but wild, Li'l Buddy, who he has to shape into a better child before 3pm.
At the Boomba room, the kids are all having fun doing arts and crafts; Cricket is having trouble due to Chase's wild attitude. Conversely, Tilly shows Emma the ways of the Tilly, using her crafty mind and making use of paint's stickiness to stick the googly eyes on her paper. Cricket continues to have trouble with Chase, who is now firing paper spitballs at his direction (one hitting a poor suspect off-screen). Cricket's attempt to butter him up just fails, with Chase glitterbombing him. The two chase each other across the room and end up brawling, with Cricket exhausted from tying Chase into a cabinet with pipe cleaners. Tilly gives the advice "Sometimes, the only way to soothe a wild beast is by taming its heart", which Emma overhears and thus making it the starting point for an apparent cult of Tilly Green, the "smartest kid in the world".
Now it's time to swim! Tilly and her followers have it well, but Cricket and Chase are having the opposite; Cricket accidentally launches Chase wayward, turning him into not only a hyperactive hairball, but one heading towards the wall. Though hurt, Chase is amazed and becomes the first student in Cricket's stunt school, in exchange for Chase being gentler to him. Throughout the day, Cricket is able to teach Chase the ways of wall-jumping (i.e. pinballing), stuff dodging, and flinging, with Chase being able to execute all forms flawlessly! Meanwhile, Tilly is creeped out and practically worshipped by the other Li'l Buddies, who are now "Till-ites", led by Emma.
Cricket is about to teach his Li'l Buddy the final stunt, the "human boulder", complete with diagram, but the clock strikes 3, halting the session. With a sense of pride and accomplishment taking over his mind, Cricket momentarily forgets about his Li'l Buddy for the ultimate reward of delicious, tasty pizza. When Chase sees this, he takes off crying, and a realization, complete with song, causes Cricket to forget said ultimate reward for his friendship with Chase and Cricket won't have that because his selfishness drove him away. Cricket also realized that it was wrong of him to use Chase to get what he wants. So he decides to go after Chase. Sue is proud of the development so she punches a wall.
Cricket chases Chase throughout the Center, the tamed wild child making great use of Cricket's teaching (just Cricket fumbles on all of them ironically) as Tilly is cornered by the Till-ites; the girl heads out by having them close their eyes and meditate as she... slips by them and takes off. The Till-ites are amazed Tilly has apparently "ascended". Meanwhile, a saddened Chase is found by Cricket, who apologizes for ditching him for pizza, and offers to be his partner in crime, a deal Chase accepts as the next thing they do is launch themselves as the ultimate human boulder!
