"No Escape" is the 20th episode of Season 4 and the 172nd episode of Big City Greens overall.
Synopsis
In an inescapable escape room, Cricket must decide between family and freedom.
Plot
The Greens have decided that for Halloween they will attend an escape room. Cricket is determined to finish it, but is put off by his family's somewhat cheesy song of working together. The tenant, who is dressed as a Croblin, tells the Greens that the fastest team had two minutes to spare and Cricket wants to try and beat the time. The group enters the room and Cricket is quick to try and finish the puzzle, but Bill becomes frightened by everything in the room, Gramma Alice is too distracted by an off-handed comment on her age and tries to prove she is in her prime, and Tilly tries to mimic a robotic Croblin to solve the room, though she is really just being annoying.
Unbeknownst to the Greens, the Croblin tenant is revealed to be Wholesome Greg who is working for Chip Whistler. The escape room is really another scheme by Chip in an effort to get back at the Greens. Cricket manages to solve the room's puzzle by himself, confusing his family who were unaware of what he was doing. They enter the next room which has four doors. They split up and are shocked to discover that each room is a simplified version of the rooms in their home, in addition to no actual clues to get out. Chip, as a puppet Croblin, offers that they can escape by pushing the red button at the entrance, but it will permanently lock the other doors, trapping them forever; in reality, the buttons will secretly release a myriad of snakes into the room when pushed.
The Greens refuse to push the button as they would never betray one another, but Cricket seemingly pushes the button to escape, but this is a fake. Nevertheless, this succeeds in demoralizing the Greens and Cricket is left riddled with guilt over dooming his family for life with his selfishness. As Chip beckons Cricket to escape for real as he struggles to decide between family or freedom, he accidentally causes Cricket to remember the song Bill made up about his family's philosophy at working together; this restores Cricket's confidence as he realizes he can't leave his family behind and can do anything when with them. He ultimately takes a third option where he uses the hammock to destroy the Croblin robot to escape through the roof into the attic and frees his family, encouraging them, and reveals the truth. Chip is angered so much that he accidentally makes his chipped tooth wider. Cricket apologizes to his family for abandoning them and the Greens end up back in the lobby, having beaten the original time by one second, but soon wonder who was behind the escape room and why they would trap them like that in addition to how they would know everything about them. They enter the employee room, but find it completely empty. They laugh it off and head back home, unaware of the piece of Chip's tooth on the floor.
