Announced at D23 Expo 2019, Disney Channel will launch a new short form web series, Random Rings, featuring animated shorts depicting real-life prank calls. The series will consist of Disney animated characters, call unsuspecting people leading to silly hijinks and hilarious results, all rendered in Disney’s signature animation style. The first season consists of 10 episodes with characters from the Disney Channel series Big City Greens, with voice actors Chris Houghton (Cricket Green) and Marieve Herington (Tilly Green) reprising their roles. Starting September 1, Random Rings will debut a new episode on Sunday on the official Disney Channel YouTube page.

Unlike the series, which is animated with hand-drawn animation and digital ink and paint, this series of shorts are the first to be digitally animated using Adobe Flash animation by Liquid Animation in Brisbane, Australia.
The series began on August 24, 2019 with the short "Cricket Calls a Karate School", which involves Cricket calling a real-life karate instructor (the YouTube and TV editions show an animated karate instructor), which was also screened at the expo. Season 1 ended on October 27, 2019, with a special episode airing on December 9, 2019 that involved Cricket and Tilly calling Raven-Symoné.
Season 2 premiered on May 18, 2020 and ended on July 13, 2020, and was expanded to include characters from other Disney Channel shows such as Phineas and Ferb, DuckTales, and Big Hero 6: The Series.
Season 3 premiered November 9, 2020 and ended on December 15, 2020. In this season instead of calling a random person, the caller now calls a live-action Disney star (ie. Raven-Symoné); also the episode titles no longer follow the pattern "[Character] Calls..." and instead follows a new pattern, such as "[Character] Pranks...". This season was inspired by Cricket and Tilly's appearance on the 2019 Disney Channel special, Holidays Unwrapped.
Season 4 premiered on January 24, 2021 and ended on April 11, 2021. It featured similar content to Seasons 2 and 3, having both live-action stars and animated characters. From this season onward, titles begin to use the "[Character] Calls..." pattern once more.
Season 5 only had one episode, premiering and ending on September 21, 2021.
Seasons 6 premiered on March 3, 2023, and it was made to promote the NHL Big City Greens Classic and its sequel.

- Unlike the series proper, these shorts were animated at Liquid Animation in Brisbane, Australia, using Adobe Flash or Toon Boom Harmony software, since the movement of the animation in the shorts used the character rigging animation technique than the series proper where they are animated traditionally using pencil and paper method. Said animation becomes the basis for all of the shorts sans Country Kids in the City, Chibi Tiny Tales and the Theme Song Takeover.
- This is the first Big City Greens work to use Flash animation.
- The first season only consists of characters of Big City Greens; other Disney animated series are featured in later seasons.
- Season 2 episodes feature Dr. Heinz Doofenshmirtz and Perry the Platypus from Phineas and Ferb and Milo Murphy's Law. Season 3 features live action Disney stars (with one featuring Launchpad McQuack from the 2017 DuckTales reboot).
- For the first season, both the caller and reciever's voices have some feedback added so it sounds like they're listening to the other over the phone. The feedback filter was removed for the caller from Season 2.
- This is one of two short series where Bill does not appear, the other is Miss Tilly's Fun Time TV Minute.
- However, Bill appears in "Tilly Calls Meg", albeit in a silent cameo.
