Season 1 Season 2 Season 3 Season 4 Season 5 Movie Full List

Season 4 is the fourth season of Big City Greens. It, alongside with a musical movie, were announced ahead of the third season premiere.[1] It premiered on September 23, 2023[2] with "Truck Stopped"/"Jingled", and ended on August 9, 2025 with "Rehashed History"/"Unplanned".

Overview

Like all other seasons except for the third, Season 4 consists of 30 half-hour episodes, with an amplified take on what the previous season(s) had; still including music, guest stars, and special episodes. Episodes were once again released in groups, consisting of about 4-6 premieres every few months like the third season, instead of groups of ten like the second. Despite this, the last batch of the season consisted of 10 episodes, with the previous having 7. This was likely due to the movie having now been released, leaving more time to release episodes.

On August 24, 2023, it was announced that Season 4 would air in September of 2023, along with the first two episode titles. A key poster was also concurrently released, foreshadowing many things and episodes through many magnets and objects on a refrigerator.

In an interview two days before the movie's premiere, Chris and Shane mentioned there are still "lots of episodes" to premiere, including the 100th episode "One Hundred". The overarching arc involving Chip returning for revenge continued with a number of "tentpole" episodes, which concluded with the special "Chip's Revenge".[3] An episode segment that is part of the finale of Season 4 was announced to be a reworked version of the cut episode "Hands-On History", titled "Rehashed History" and complete with Mark Hamill guest-starring.[4]

Prior to the airing of the one hundredth episode, Chris and Shane discussed "Chip's Revenge" which would air immediately after, an episode that completely dives away from the show's formula and focuses on the Greens taking down Chip a second time. Other episodes were also teased, such as "a Downton Abbey-esque episode with Tilly's stuffed potato sack, Saxon; Wayne goes to the Big City; Gramma fights some porch pirates; The Greens get swole at the gym!". The season concluded with "Rehashed History", a revived version of the shelved "Hands-On History" with several plot points tweaked, followed by a special emotional episode where Cricket learns something about his genesis.[5]

Production

On January 21, 2022, the series was renewed for a fourth season ahead of the official season 3 premiere. Along with that, a musical spin-off was ordered, which premiered on Disney Channel on June 6, 2024, and Disney+ the next day.[1]

Partway through the season, production was paused in order to finish production on Big City Greens the Movie: Spacecation. There was a six-month hiatus from October 2023 to April 2024 during said production gap. The show went on hiatus again after the ninth episode for another six months between April and October for the movie, to make room for the premieres of Zombies: The Re-Animated Series (which aired a sneak peek after the movie and premiered June 27, with new episodes taking up the show's usual timeslot), Primos (which premiered July 25; the following month), and the second season of Hamster and Gretel (which premiered in September, with a sing-along version of the movie airing the same month).

    • The second season in a row after the third:
      • To not feature the Big City Mall and Hudkins Department Store.
      • To not feature Mr. Whistler, Don & Dawn, or Ms. Cho.
      • To never show Cricket in his underwear outside the theme song.
      • To use the word "blort" outside of Big City.
      • Where Bill does not use his "disappointed" face.
  • This is the third season to use the word, "Blort".
  • This is the last season of a few things:
    • The last season to feature Cricket and Gabriella in a relationship; they break up in "Split Decision".
    • The last season to air during Disney Channel's "Doodles" era (2019-2024), although the bumpers for such are still used on DisneyNOW.
  • This season returns to Big City due to the Greens deciding to move back in with Gramma while Nancy becomes the sole resident of their country house.
  • After being absent throughout season 3, Chip Whistler returns this season as the main antagonist.
  • The theme song reverts back to as it was for Season 3A, with only one change; the Greens being able to move between the country and the city.
  • This season makes Big City Greens the second longest-running animated Disney Channel series, coming behind the un-cancelled Phineas and Ferb and after Kim Possible.
  • The various elements seen on the poster foreshadow specific events in the season:
    • The Smalton watertower ("Handshaken")
    • Business card for Mama Roni's Pizza (Tilly coming up with the Mama Roni's jingle in "Jingled")
    • Magnet of Mr. Truckee ("Truck Stopped")
    • Magnet of a green Croblin ("Internetted")
    • Magnet of Mr. Burger Clown (Remy buying all the BcRibs in "Dollar Sense")
    • Bottlecap of Splish soda, holding up a coupon for Nutri-Chow (the can of dog food in "Dog Proof")
    • Magnet of the Galaxu emblem ("Starter Pack")
    • Magnet for the Gloria + Green Cafe ("Coffee Mates")
    • Photo of Nancy in the country with Nick ("Bad Dad")
    • Magnet of a silver hockey stick and puck ("Iced")
    • Magnet for Patti's diner (likely "Truck Stopped" or "Handshaken")
    • Business card for Frank's (Nancy trying to get Nick a job at Frank's in "Bad Dad")
    • Magnet of the Silverway Bridge (likely "Chip's Revenge")
    • Photo of Remy and Vasquez, with the latter looking away ("Unguarded")
    • Magnet of Wholesome Foods (the reveal that Chip is still alive and hiding out in Big City; "Chipped Off" and/or likely "No Escape")
  • A clip of "Dream Tree" is used in one of Disney Channel's 2024 Fa-la-la-lidays promotions; the scene of Bill saying "it's more beautiful than I imagined!" when he sees what he thinks is the family's perfect Christmas tree. However, in the promotion, Bill says "Oh, holy night", although this audio is from a different point in the episode, when he and Cricket are being chased by a moose.
  • Much like the second, the middle of this season takes on a slightly darker tone, focusing on the return of Chip Whistler and the Greens preparing to save both their homes from him a second time. Other episodes focus on more serious topics, such as "Good Grief" (which focuses on grieving), "Split Decision" (where Cricket and Gabriella break up), and "Unplanned" (Cricket finding out he was unplanned and running away).
  • When season 4C was released, the promo for the season 4B episodes from March-April was reused instead of a new promo, likely to avoid spoilers for "Chip's Revenge" and the finale.
  • This is currently the longest running season of the series thus far, likely due to the movie's production.
    • Coincidentally, the season started at the beginning of fall (September 23) and ended at the end of summer (August 9).
  • This marks the third season where Remy was absent for the finale following the first and second.
  • Out of all episodes, the only one that did not release any sneak previews from Disney Television Animation was "Chip's Revenge", in addition to having no advertising on Disney Channel/Disney XD unlike "Chipocalypse Now". This was likely done on purpose to avoid major spoilers for the viewing audience and to those who haven't seen the show yet.
