"Stand-Up Bill" is the 3rd episode of Season 4 and the 155th episode of Big City Greens overall.
Synopsis
Bill discovers his favorite comedian, Fred the Farmer, may not be who he claims to be. Meanwhile, Cricket goes up against an insult comedian.
Plot
The Greens are visiting the Guffaw Factory with Bill excited to meet his favorite comedian Fred the Farmer. Bill believes that Fred understands real farmers and wants to voice his love of farming with him. He misses the meet and greet with him and tries to get into the back room, but is kicked out by the bouncer. Gramma Alice decides to help Bill sneak into the back to meet Fred. Meanwhile, Cricket and Tilly watch roast comedian Jessica Burns performing stand-up. Cricket finds her material hilarious and thinks of roasting as true comedy. When he beckons her to roast him however, Jessica straight up humiliates Cricket, made even worse when he makes pathetic comebacks.
Bill and Alice manage to get in through the back by claiming that the former is a comedian as well, with the bouncer thinking he is an anti-comic. Bill and Alice find Fred's dressing room, but are in shock to discover that not only is he not a real farmer, but he is a British man named "Freginald". Bill and Alice resolve to oust his deception with Bill challenging Fred's knowledge of farming on stage. When Fred fails to give adequate answers and reveals his true lineage, the audience turns on him. Fred comes out to Bill and reveals that his father was a real farmer and while he failed to follow his footsteps, he found that he had a knack for comedy as a way to honor him. Bill realizes he made a terrible mistake.
Bill gets back up on stage and calms the crowd by telling his own "jokes" that are simply him giving information on how to farm. When the audience turns on him, he brings Fred out to tell his jokes and the audience falls in love with him all over again. Bill tells Alice that even though Fred is not a real farmer, they should appreciate the joy he brings to people. Cricket is still sad over Jessica's roasting of his, but takes comfort in Tilly still thinking he is funny. When Cricket wishes that he had the last laugh, Tilly decides to help him. They leave a banana peel outside the exit which Jessica slips on, much to Cricket and Tilly's amusement.
