"Starter Pack" is the 16th episode of Season 4 and the 168th episode overall of Big City Greens.
Synopsis
Avid collector Remy struggles to cope after Cricket finds the rarest of all trading cards.
Plot
Remy's Galaxu lair, extroadinare.
Cricket comes to visit Remy where they reminisce over a photo of themselves fishing. Cricket finds a binder labeled Galaxu and Remy reveals that he is an avid collector of Galaxu cards, a franchise centered around intergalactic monsters that you train and collect. Remy reveals a secret room underneath his bedroom that contains more Galaxu related memorabilia and products. Among them is an empty glass case that according to Remy is reserved for Starmadillo, the rarest of all the cards and the one that he has been desperately trying to find. The boys decide to take Vasquez to the card shop to see if they can find it.
Cricket ends up finding the card that Remy wanted.
At the card store, Remy entices Cricket to buy a starter pack while he buys an entire box's worth of cards. Remy fails to find the card, but is shocked that Cricket managed to find Starmadillo in the very first pack he got. Right away, Cricket shows no care towards maintaining the card's freshness as Remy quickly develops jealousy over Cricket having found it. Remy tries to convince Cricket to keep it safe, but he pays no mind and proceeds to abuse it. He begins to hallucinate the Starmadollo talking to him and telling him he's his true owner and he has to get him back from Cricket.
At the Greens' house while watching the Galaxu anime, Remy sees the actions during the episode coincide with what he is experiencing in real life. He attempts to take the Starmadillo card from Cricket, but Cricket shows anger at stealing a treasured belonging from someone, sending Remy into a tailspin of doubt as he fears taking Starmadillo could ruin their friendship. Inspired by the protagonist cloning Starmadillo on TV, Remy tries to concoct a way to get the card away from Cricket, leading to him asking Gloria to make a fake card. However, Cricket immediately sees through the fake upon recognizing the card has Gloria's distinctive art style, and upon seeing the Starmadillo in the protective case in Remy's pocket, he realizes that Remy was trying to steal the card from him.
Sometimes a memory can be just as good as a card.
Cricket ejects Remy from his house, forcing Remy to initiate a Galaxu duel and calls upon Vasquez. Cricket in turn calls upon Gramma Alice and the two adults fight each other throughout the house. As Cricket accuses Remy of stealing the card and not trusting him with it, Remy declares that he deserves the card more than him because he has been a fan longer and Cricket only just started. During the duel, Vasquez knocks a picture off the mantle -- Remy finds it, revealing it to be the photo of their fishing trip and suddenly remembers something similar happened with Cricket who was actually happy for Remy.
Realizing everything, Remy urges the adults to stop fighting and admits to Cricket that he has been childish for not trusting Cricket, and lets him keep the card. Cricket forgives him, but after stepping on the card, admits that he should keep it safe. Gloria then paints a photo about the aftermath which Remy stores in the Starmadillo cabinet as the episode ends.
