"Study Abroad" is the 31st episode of Season 3 and the 147th episode overall of Big City Greens.
Synopsis
Remy enlists the Greens to help him lie to his parents about his week in the country, but Bill just wants him to tell the truth.
Plot
Everyone appears to be willing to help Remy, all except for Bill...
Remy is hanging out with Cricket and Tilly, partaking in typical country fun activities. Remy is happy to not be doing anything, when Cricket mentions that it is Sunday. Remy panics and reveals that the reason he came for an extended stay with Cricket is that he sold the country house out for a study abroad program; he is supposed to get a call from his parents every Sunday so that he can tell them what he has learned, but this week, he didn't learn anything. Should his parents discover that he has not learned anything lately, he will be taken back to Big City immediately. Cricket, Tilly, Nancy, and Gramma Alice all agree to help Remy lie so that he can stay, but Bill is angered and annoyed and suggests that he simply tell the truth, only to be swiftly ignored by the entire party.
Cricket teaches Remy to add specific details, Tilly suggests setting the mood, Alice tells him to make enough action, while Nancy only seems interested in having animals with small hats. Bill cannot believe what he is hearing and tries to regale a story about building a fence. Remy instead decides to lie about building one as well just as his parents and Vasquez call. When Remy is nervous about what to say to his parents, Cricket writes some cheat notes on Remy's arm to help out.
Things don't seem too good with Remy's "lesson" explanation. Can he pull it back?
The call begins, and Remy starts out well, but his sweat out of anxiety over what he should say causes his cheat notes to rub off. The Greens, sans Bill, try to help Remy out with his story, but Remy gets most of the details wrong. When he mentions that he was fending off wolves, his parents declare that they are bringing him back. Remy jumps into a story about facing off against a wolf to rescue a calf, using all the lying tricks that the Greens taught him. Despite getting approval from the Greens, the Remingtons do not believe his story and demand an explanation.
Turns out, the Remingtons don't mind if Remy didn't learn anything for a week, as long as he wasn't fighting off wolves!
Finally giving into Bill's point of view, Remy tells his parents that he has not done anything that week and was scared. They tell him that they are happy that he is okay and that they are perfectly fine with him not having learned anything. But Remy is not off the hook and as punishment though for lying, they demand he write a 20 page essay on the history of lying. Remy sulks that he did in fact learn something that week.
