The Trashteroids are asteroid-sized masses of trash thrown into space by BigTech in order to solve litter problems. They orbit Earth at around the same height as the Space Hotel did before its destruction. The trashteroids are currently being cleaned up by Colleen Voyd and other members of BigTech.
History[]
They first appeared after the song Space Is Fun, while the Greens were going on a spacewalk. Because Cricket and Alice Green had locked Colleen Voyd in a cryochamber, Bill was forced to pilot the S.S. Gwendolyn in order to avoid the trashteroids. After escaping the trashteroid field, the Greens made it to the Space Hotel. Later in the movie, after #RXZ290G was blown off of its orbit and sent on a collision course with Earth, Cricket attempted to use the Space Hotel's tractor beam to pull the asteroid away and save Big City. While doing this, the hotel entered the trashteroid field, complicating Cricket's attempt to activate the tractor beam and nearly killing him. Although, with physical and emotional help from Bill, he was able to activate the tractor beam and prevent the impact. Afterwards, Colleen began ordering a mass cleanup of the trashteroids, hoping to get rid of them entirely.
Trivia[]
- In the trashteroids' debut scene, it is shown that they vary in size from a few feet to multiple miles.
- Due to the trashteroids' size, some could potentially be seen from the surface of Earth.
- The name "trashteroid" was given by Tilly Green.
- The trashteroids would eventually have fallen back down to Earth due to orbit decay, essentially making them more dangerous than landfills and littering are.
- A good example of this is the International Space Station, which will potentially fall back to Earth within the next few decades. Because of this, the space station will likely be taken apart or destroyed by 2030 to prevent future disaster.
- Assuming this didn't happen, with enough trash, Earth could probably have gained a ring system made of discarded waste.
