"Unguarded" is the 14th episode of Season 4 and the 166th episode overall of Big City Greens.
Synopsis
When Remy tells Vasquez he no longer needs his protection, Vasquez speaks with a therapist.
Plot
Vasquez outraged at the fact that Remy doesn't need him much anymore.
Remy is getting dressed and ready for a medieval event being held at the community center. Just as he picks his outfit, Vasquez arrives, apparently unaware of Remy's plans, and gets ready to go. However, the Remingtons all agree that Vasquez's services are not required as Remy is old enough to look after himself. As Remy leaves, Vasquez has a panic attack and faints. Upon awakening, Russell and Rashida reveal that they have hired a therapist for him named Dr. Maya Bloom. Dr. Bloom quickly deduces that Vasquez has an unhealthy attachment to Remy and that he needs to let the boy be independent. Vasquez begins to tell his story of how he met Remy and when the Remingtons hired him.
Years ago, Vasquez was once known as Tiger Fang of the Order of the Fang. He and his team learned that the Remingtons had just purchased an ancient scroll that is important to their Order and go to their home to retrieve it. The Remingtons return home to put the newly born Remy to bed, where it just so happens that he uses the scroll as a security blanket to help him sleep. Vasquez is unable to take the scroll without waking baby Remy because without it, he would cry and alert his parents, so his partner Viper Fang suggests they take Remy along with it. Unable to kidnap the child, Vasquez turns on his Order as the Remingtons watch in awe. After the Order escapes, Russell and Rashida decide to hire Vasquez to be their official bodyguard for Remy, which he dutifully accepts. Remy was too young to remember that night, but Vasquez took his duty to heart since then.
Eventually, people will move on and not need your protection much anymore, but they'll still enjoy your company.
Dr. Bloom tells Vasquez that he is already learning to cope with the idea that Remy is now making his own decisions, but Vasquez refuses to believe that and heads to the community center with Dr. Bloom following him. At the center, Vasquez sees Remy playing joust with Cricket and becomes concerned, especially when Remy falls from his bicycle from Cricket hitting him with a pretend sword, presumably unconscious in the process as he prepares to smash the window with a boulder to save him. However, Dr. Bloom points out that Remy is clearly having fun and asks Vasquez if he looks like the same helpless boy he rescued years ago. Vasquez holds off long enough to see Remy get right back up unharmed and continues the joust, and Vasquez finally realizes that he is not in any danger. Afterwards, Vasquez picks up Remy from the center and admits that he is overprotective of him and accepts Remy can take care of himself. Remy says that even if he doesn't need him, he would still like him around and they hug.
