• Cricket and Gramma's side to the story seems to be a parody of the fairytale The Boy Who Cried Wolf. Like the titular shephard boy, Cricket and Gramma prank Bill so much that it annoys him, and when they encounter an actual attack (the chihuahua, like the wolf), Bill thinks they're pranking him again and does not come to help, and when he finds them, they have already been attacked and tells them he hopes they learned their lesson.
• When the chihuahua closes in, Cricket cries out, "Daddy, help me!" This line was also said by Nemo in the Disney/Pixar movie Finding Nemo as he is about to get captured by the divers.
• Tilly rejecting all the adopters' requests would be mirrored in a 2020 episode of The Loud House podcast where Lana rejects all the adopters wanting to adopt the pets she has bonded with.
