"Wild Side" is the 17th episode of Season 2 and the 75th episode overall of Big City Greens.
Synopsis[]
Cricket's feral wild side takes over when Bill is unable to replicate their old camping trips.
Plot[]
Cricket and Remy are outside punching cans when Bill calls them in for dinner. Cricket refuses to come inside and starts acting wild and zany. Bill realizes that he has "the itch" and explains to Remy that once every year, Cricket gets this wild urge, and begins to behave erratically, and the only way to calm him down is to take him camping in the woods, away from "decent folk," so that Cricket can be himself for the night. Cricket agrees to go camping, with Remy asking to join as he doesn't understand the situation and wants to experience it like Cricket.
However, instead of going into the woods, Bill decides to have them camp in the backyard. This disappoints Cricket, who insists that "backyard camping is fun, too." Instead of building a fire, Bill substitutes it with flashlights, which frustrates Cricket because it doesn't satisfy his wild instincts as tradition requires. Angered, he runs off into the city.
Bill and Remy set out to find him, with Gramma Alice joining them on the condition that she gets the TV to herself on Tuesday evenings. Not long after they leave, Nancy and Tilly return home from spending time together and see the makeshift camp setup in the backyard. They decide to have fun by making s'mores and telling ghost stories, resulting in humorous moments.
Meanwhile, Cricket, now stripped down to his underwear and covered in mud, runs through Big City, frightening the civilians. While Bill stops to explain Cricket's condition to a lady, Cricket dodges every attempt made by the Greens and Remy to catch him, even managing to kidnap Remy while Bill is distracted. Cricket takes Remy to Big City Park, where he inducts him into being a feral child like him. Remy embraces the wild experience just in time for Bill and Alice to catch up to them. The boys easily escape their trap and come across a production of Romeo and Juliet featuring Alexander as Romeo, where they wreak havoc on the stage.
Bill finally catches up to Cricket, but surprisingly admits that he wishes he could be wild and carefree like him, although he fears what others might say. Cricket advises him to "do what makes Bill happy." In an impulsive moment, Bill removes his shirt and swings over the audience, who react in disgust. Gramma watches and smiles approvingly.
As Nancy and Tilly wonder where the rest of the family has gone, they are amazed to see Bill, Cricket, and Remy return covered in mud and acting wild. They join in, and all five of them howl and cheer around a real burning fire while Alice, who has stripped naked and uses chickens as makeshift censors, proudly compliments her crazy family with "That's my family.".
