"Zen Garden" is the 5th episode of Season 3 and the 121st episode overall of Big City Greens.
Synopsis
Nancy tries to prove herself on the farm. Bill struggles to relax at a fancy spa with Gramma.
Plot
It is breakfast time for the Greens, but Bill is noticeably much more exhausted than usual. The others are concerned for his well-being, seeing as he has worked non-stop for a long time. However, Nancy willingly steps into his shoes and lets a reluctant Bill (and Gramma) relax at the spa for a day while Nancy steps into the shoes of Bill Green to help with farm stuff. At the spa, Gramma is ready to relax, but Bill is ironically the opposite of relaxed due to the idleness.
The kids and Nancy finish step one of Bill's guide to farming: singing the Bill Green planting song 25 times while tilling the soil. Now they move to the next step, preparing the cow to do the plow. As a well-groomed animal is well-behaved, they must brush the cow for 300 strokes, and the goat for 301. Nancy sends the kids inside as she tackles the job... but her definition of "tackling the job" is just... slacking off. Back at the spa, Bill tries to reassure himself about trusting Nancy with the farm, but Gramma is confident in her ability. However, due to his deep anxiety, Bill is not able to relax at all. Not even a massage works due to him being as strong as a brick wall.
Nancy continues to slack off as the kids return to the next step, the plowing itself. However, Brenda is not willing to plow at all due to having performance anxiety. And to make things worse, Melissa's jealousy gets the better of her and she starts to eat everything in sight, including the to-do list Bill set for them.
Meanwhile, not even acupuncture is able to fix Bill's issue as the staff bring out the big guns: the sounds of nature. But that does not work either as the staff (and Gramma launching her prosthetic leg right at Bill's head) send a reluctant Bill into a deep journey into his mind, where he, driving the Kludge, is met with the sentient, talking voice of its steering wheel, who informs him they are currently heaving a lot of load, aka Bill's worries about the farm. Bill decides to let go and finally finds inner peace.
If only the same could be said for the kids and Nancy, though; they are an utter mess by the end of the day, and Bill is on his way home. But not all hope is lost; Nancy puts her bike to use and quickly does the farming with just that and a plow. Just the end result is not really that impressive. Nancy admits she wasn't able to impress her family as Bill and Gramma return; Nancy confesses to Bill, who says nothing about the situation, but is impressed due to finding inner peace. Bill then presents spa vouchers for Nancy and the kids... but they're all eaten by Melissa. Cricket then asks Bill if the gift certificates weren't too expensive... causing Bill to scream in frustration as he promptly loses his inner peace.
